Elodie Marandon was born in Paris in 1989. She lives and works between Paris and Geneva where she continues her research on landscape, animals and dreams.
During her childhood, she studied Mandarin, and traveled a lot in China. Later she lived an experience that became a great source of inspiration for her artistic practice: a journey inside the Trans-Siberian train from Moscow to Beijing. Elodie Marandon studied Chinese and psychology at the University, and later she obtained a Master's Degree in Fine Arts from the Haute Ecole des Arts du Rhin in Strasbourg, France.
She lived in Mexico for a few months, where she discovered a new culture and different sceneries. When she came back to France, she became a member of an artist run space. With a group of artists, they worked on an exhibition project called « Depths ». It took place in Strasbourg and Trier (Germany).
Elodie Marandon is influenced by Asian art, and the landscapes of German Romantic painting. The contemplation of nature is an important part of her process, and the landscape is the starting point of her works. She is interested in the limit between the Beautiful and the Terrifying. Through her paintings and drawings, she tries to dominate her fears. Elodie plays with the ambivalence of her models, a mix between attraction and disgust. At first sight, her works are simple and peaceful. But as we take a closer look, we start feeling confused.
