«record or perform a new version of (a song) originally performed by someone else.»
«Appearance, semblance, concealment opposed to realities they hide from view.»
By definition "Covers" means «record or perform a new version of (a song) originally performed by someone else, an "appearance, semblance, concealment opposed to realities they hide from view.» It is a trend that we can currently see in our society, through the use of social networks such as Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and so on. We share with people, through posts and stories, a glorified picture of ourself, as a false personality we try to embody.
Elisabeth Gomes Barradas wanted to give a tribute to the ghetto fabs style coming from the Rap Rnb from the 2000's. In fact, since her youngest age she's been a fan of this movement, and she's always been listening to this music, hoping that one day she could become one of the celebrities she loved (Rihanna, Ashanti, Beyonce...). She still sings rnb, and secretly hopes to become a big star.
This project tries to trick the spectator by showing false celebrities inspired by the music clips from the 2000's (trends, haircut, jewels).
Elisabeth asked several people from her circle (sisters, friends, friends of friends...) a list of rap rnb music they used to listen to at that time. According to their playlist, lifestyle and story, she created a decor that suits perfectly to her models.
The use of an analog camera is very wanted, it is a manner to give her photographs a sort of vintage style, just as the photographs, or album covers coming from the 2000's.
