Marine, could you tell us about yourself and your background?

Hello, I am Marine Bléhaut and I’m based in Paris. I have been working as a web and graphic designer for several years after my studies in Art History and digital project management. Nowadays I make drawings, photography and video collages.

When did you start making art?

Six years ago, even without a practical art background, I wanted to test, to explore my capacities and limits in representing figurative, but also abstract forms. In the course of events in my life, I always felt like I needed to express myself in my drawings, then photography and collages came after.

"I’m much more inspired by history, politics, science than what current artists do, even if some of them give me courage to continue making art."

What is the story behind your artworks?

Honestly I don’t know yet…

I just know that I love playing with abstract and details subjects in drawings, old photos and public domain films in collages, and with light in photography.

I am very attracted to human memory. On the scientific, historic, and intimate levels. To me it feels as if human history, evolution and what we make of it was a sort of abstract and plastic matter to play with. And it helps me question a huge number of elements that shaped our entire existence : women’s right, traumas, food, slavery… The list is long.  I’m much more inspired by history, politics, science than what current artists do, even if some of them give me courage to continue making art. Maybe in the future other subjects will come.

Marine Bléhaut, Double you, NFT

A few months ago you started making NFTs. What made you decide to start this journey into WEB3?

I started NFTs in November 2021, and I never thought I could have made it this far.
For a long time I thought I wasn’t curious at all about new technologies, but I was wrong. I think I was just afraid to explore the unknown.

The second and most important reason was because I strongly believe in the possibility to make the world a better place for artists, including those who didn’t go to an art school, who don’t have a strong network or don’t feel at ease with the traditional art world as it is.

Did you find it difficult to enter the world of crypto art?

I think the world of crypto art is changing so quickly, I sometimes feel like endlessly ‘entering’ it. But on a second thought, I don’t think you actually ‘enter’ this space, it feels more like it has entered my everyday life and work life.

Minting Jpegs and using Twitter is not difficult. The main difficulty is to really get in the game, be truly curious about how NFTs work and will shape our world, and play with it. When you come from a more traditional and rather conservative background in arts, you can enter the world of crypto art, of course, anyone can, but it’s still a bit challenging.

What were the PROs and CONs of entering this space as an artist?

PROs :
The community can be truly helpful in this space.

The diversity of styles and artists makes it easier to express yourself and find your style, rather than in the traditional art world.

CONs :

I think the NFT community should not be essentially on Twitter, because adding a new social media to my work time was not the best news for me.

If you had one advice to give for artists who are curious about NFTs, what would it be?

I would say this : don’t be curious about NFTs for the money. Be yourself and play the game in your style and respectfully.

As in a lot of risky adventures, test new strategies and just welcome NFTs in your life.
